Tata Chemicals launches agri solutions in Jharkhand & WB
India Infoline — July 25, 2005

Tata Chemicals Ltd. on Monday announced the entry of 'Tata Kisan Sansar' into West Bengal and Jharkhand. Tata Kisan Sansar benefits farmers by offering end-to-end agri solutions including the latest in agro services and specialized input products. The services ranging from agro input planning to soil testing, assist farmers in their decision making process to increase their yield and align themselves to market demands.

The Tata Kisan Sansar (TKS) has been hugely successful in providing solutions to over 25000 villages in Northern India on completion of its first phase. As part of Phase II, TKS sees a vast opportunity in the Eastern states. For example, in the northern districts of West Bengal, the tea growers have no access to modern farming techniques such as soil testing.

TKS will benefit farmers by enabling easy access to the latest techniques and modern farming concepts, which otherwise were inaccessible to farmers in West Bengal and Jharkhand.

The Company has said that, it trained agronomists to directly interact with the farmers for total agriculture related solutions. The company has over 175 highly skilled agronomists that constantly track and bring the best agro-practises to the farmers in the five states. The key benefits provided by TKS to a farmer include easy access to the market and facilitate long term, low interest by becoming a part of self-help group called Kisan Sahyog Pariwars (KSP).

Projects of the KSP have already been successfully rolled out in 254 villages in Punjab, Haryana and UP. With 45 outlets planned in the two Eastern states, these services will now be extended to various districts throughout these states.

Commenting on the entry of Tata Kisan Sansar into the Eastern region, Kapil Mehan, COO, Fertiliser, Tata Chemicals Ltd. said, "TKS is aimed at being a business partner and advisor to farmers by providing the entire range of agro services to them. We have commenced our initiative in the East and we hope to expand our reach to 45 outlets in the year 2005-06."
