Suraksha Puraskar at the National Safety Awards

Tata
Chemicals Limiteds Babrala facility have been awarded
the much-coveted Suraksha Puraskar by The National
Safety Council of India at the National Safety Awards held
at Mumbai in January 2009. Shri Oscar Fernandes, Honble
Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Govt. Of India,
presented the awards.
Suraksha Puraskar is awarded
for recognising and encouraging factories for developing and
implementing effective Occupational Health and Safety Management
System and achieving meritorious and sustained performance
over a period of three calendar years preceding the Awards
Year. The awards were presented for performance during 2004
2007.
Speaking on the achievement, Mr. Kapil
Mehan, Executive Director, Tata Chemicals Limited said, Receiving
these accolades adds to our commitment and dedication towards
Safety, Health and Environment. Safety and Health of the workforce
and communities is the basic necessity for sustainable existence
of any business. We give prime importance to SHE initiatives
and such accolades helps us raise the bar every year.
The assessment of applications is
based upon A) Statistics of accidents, dangerous occurrences
and occupational diseases. B) Quality and adequacy of safety
management systems and procedures. C) Sustained improvement
over a period of three years. The process also involves verification
of the data provided in the application through the Chief
Inspector of Factories and Chairman Pollution Control Board
of the concerned states, personal presentation before the
Awards Committee by senior representatives of the top short-listed
contenders and field visits by technical teams of NSC to a
few selected plants.
